Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Monday that five departments, including fire and police, will submit a report on the Gulzar Houz fire that killed at least 17 people, including eight children yesterday.
The probe will be conducted by officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, fire, police, revenue department and the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency, as per PTI.
The officials are likely to visit the Gulzar Houz building near the iconic Charminar today. They have submitted a preliminary report on the fire. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory is also going to visit the building for investigation, a senior police official told PTI.
The police officer also mentioned that a fire accident case has been registered. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has ordered an inquiry into yesterday's fire incident.
The government will also include local public respresentatives as a measure avoid any future fire accidents and to install fire safety measures in old heritage buildings.
The cause of yesterday's fire is suspected to be short circuit in the old building that killed 17, including at least eight children. The only way out of the building was a narrow staircase, which could not function as an exit route when the fire engulfed the building, , a Fire Department official told PTI.
The building had jewellery shops on the ground floor and a flat above it where people resided. People also died of asphyxiation. Four people on the upper floors survived, while 17 were taken to different hospitals in an unconscious conditions.
