Maha Kumbh 2025: Blaze Erupts At Sector 18 Vacant Hut, Fire Officials Extinguish Flame

A fire broke out in a vacant hut near Harishchandra Marg in Sector 18 of Mahakumbh. The fire was promptly extinguished by the Fire department personnel. Further details are still awaited.

Earlier, on January 14, a cooking gas cylinder exploded in a tent at the Digambar Ani Akhada at the Kumbh Mela site, triggering a massive fire, police said.

There were, however, no reports of anyone being injured, Akhada police station inspector Bhaskar Mishra said. According to officials, the fire broke out around 12.45 PM. Soon after, six fire tenders and eight ambulances were rushed to the spot.

Firefighters took about 10 minutes to control the blaze which engulfed the makeshift structure at the venue. Two vehicles and some materials kept at the site were damaged in the fire, they said.

A week ago, another fire broke out at a camp in Sector 18 of the Maha Kumbh Nagar area in Prayagraj. No casualties were reported however.

Fire department officials were promptly rushed to the scene to oversee the operation. Several fire engines have been deployed as well to douse the flames.

Commenting on the development, Inspector Yogesh Chaturvedi of Khak Chowk police station told PTI, "A fire broke out at a camp near Tulsi Chauraha on Old GT Road. However, firefighters have managed to bring the blaze largely under control."

This came days after a stampede killed around 30 people on January 29, 2025, while around 60 were injured in the incident.

According to the UP government, over 397.4 million people have taken a holy dip in the sacred confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati in the ongoing Maha Kumbh.
