A Facebook post mentioning that a seven-month pregnant woman in Kolkata was allegedly denied treatment by her gynaecologist for being Muslim was widely shared on April 25. The incident happened just two days after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26.
When contacted, the woman바카라s sister-in-law, Mehfuza Khatun, informed that the incident happened on the afternoon of April 24 when the patient visited the gynaecologist바카라s home clinic. The doctor usually sees patients at the Kasturi Das Memorial Super Specialty Hospital.
바카라We are deeply disturbed and heartbroken to share this incident. My pregnant sister-in-law, who has been under the care of Dr. C. K. Sarkar for the past 7 months, was appalled and outraged by Dr. C K Sarkar's blatant refusal to treat her solely because we are Muslim,바카라 the post read. Outlook reached out to the doctor for a comment but did not get it.
The gynaecologist allegedly called the pregnant woman a 바카라murderer바카라 and a 바카라terrorist바카라. She also told the patient to go to 바카라madrasas바카라 for her future check-ups. 바카라People from your religion are killing us (Hindus). Your husband should get killed by Hindus so that you can feel the same as we feel,바카라 Sarkar allegedly said to the pregnant woman, who wished to remain anonymous.
Khatun claimed that her sister-in-law, whose first name is traditionally Hindu, was refused treatment after the doctor noticed her surname, which is commonly associated with Muslims. The pregnant woman and her two-year-old daughter, who accompanied her mother to the doctor바카라s visit, were left terrified after the altercation, Khatun said. The patient confronted the doctor over a phone call after she returned from the home clinic.
Over the phone call, Sarkar reiterated her resolve to refuse treatment to Muslim patients on communal grounds and told the patient to never return to her clinic. 바카라Why should I treat you after what your community has done to mine,바카라 says Sarkar as per the recording accessed by Outlook.
Khatun raised a complaint with the West Bengal Medical Council. The organisation allegedly told Khatun that there needs to be evidence of the incident for them to take action. She plans to raise a complaint with the hospital that employs Sarkar.
Khatun has been getting threats ever since her Facebook post went viral. 바카라People are writing nasty things,바카라 she said.
The family is concerned about the pregnant woman바카라s remaining term since it is medically advised to get treatment from the same doctor throughout the gestation period.
바카라Refusing care to a pregnant woman in such a vulnerable stage can have severe consequences. Healthcare professionals are bound by their oath to treat all patients equally, regardless of religion, caste, or background,바카라 Khatun바카라s Facebook post stated, calling the incident 바카라unethical바카라 and 바카라inhumane바카라.
Incidents of targeted attacks against Kashmiri Muslims in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack have been reported across the country.
