A fresh political tension surfaced in Tamil Nadu as a young woman reportedly accused that her husband, the Deputy Secretary of the DMK's youth wing, of torture and sexual harassment. The DMK worker has been identified as 40-year-old Deivaseyal.
As per a report by NDTV, the DMK worker's wife, a 20-year-old college student from Arakkonam district, alleged that "his job is to force 20-year-old girls to sleep with politicians" and that "he would bite her like a mad dog" while threatening to set her family members on fire if she ever complained to the police.
What All Did The Woman Say?
"His job is to torture 20-year-old girls to sleep with politicians... no action is ever taken against him. When I complain he threatens to cut me into pieces. He tortured me in the car and told me to sleep with the men he pointed to... I can't even leave my home. I couldn't take my exams," the woman said.
"He assaulted me on the way to college; injured me and broke my phone. He would say, if you complain, nothing will happen as the police will support me. Because of him I tried to take poison," she reportedly said in an appeal picked up by the main opposition, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
Moreover, the woman also mentioned that her husband abused her in front of everyone and called on DMK supremo and Chief Minister MK Stalin to act. "Otherwise, I will kill myself...." she reportedly said in her appeal.
In her complaint the young woman also alleged that she was introduced to several men by her husband, and had presumed that she would be sent to them to perform sexual acts.
Opposition AIADMK Reacts
Taking cognisance of the development, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday expressed shock and claimed that police registered FIR only after the girl sought the intervention of AIADMK Arakkonam legislator S Ravi, as per PTI.
In a social media post, Palaniswami expressed shock over the news that a DMK youth wing functionary at Arakkonam in Ranipet district tried to make the young woman available for sexual exploitation by ruling party personalities.
The opposition leader sought to know whether the government would take action against the DMK functionary while asserting that if action was not taken, his party would organise massive protests.
Slamming CM MK Stalin over his statements on Pollachi sexual assault case, in which the accused allegedly had connections in the AIADMK, the AIADMK chief said, "Do you know the difference between the Pollachi case and this case? I honestly transferred the Pollachi case to the CBI for probe. However, you (DMK regime) are doing everything to dilute the Arakkonam case."
The ruling DMK said the police will act against the guilty, and that the party will take internal action depending on the cops' investigation.
In the horrific 2019 Pollachi sex abuse case, multiple women were raped by a gang of nine men between 2016 and 2018. They filmed these assaults and extorted money and sexual favours.
