Boris Singh's own goal at the hour mark broke the deadlock before Greg Stewart doubled Mohun Bagan's lead in the injury time to shut off the game in favour of the Mariners.

It was a good back and forth in the first half as both sides threatened to get the lead but could not. Mohun Bagan looked the more attacking team but it was the Goan side which kept the ball in control for more time.

A controversial moment came up near the half-time when Manvir Singh's goal was given on field but later retracted after FC Goa's players protested for a hand ball. On consultations, referee agreed with FC Goa's appeal and the goal was not given.

Just after the hour mark, Boris Singh made a blunder in trying to head a cross to his goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwary. Since Tiwary was out of position, Singh's header sneaked into the goal to give Mohun Bagan the lead.

Goa did try to level score in the remaining time but the Mohun Bagan defence stood tall. By the end of the game, Greg Stewart too found the net to make the scoreline 2-0 in Mohun Bagan's favour.
