At least 54 people were killed in multiple Israeli airstrikes that hit Gaza's southern city of Khan Younis overnight on Wednesday.
According to the Associated Press, Khan Younis was hit by 10 airstrikes overnight into Thursday.
Overnight Air Strike
According to reports, it was the second consecutive night of heavy bombing, following Wednesday's airstrikes on northern and southern Gaza that killed at least 70 people, including women and children.
The attacks come as US President Donald Trump is on a trip to the Middle East, visiting Gulf countries but not Israel. There had been widespread hope that Trump's regional visit could trigger a ceasefire deal or a renewal of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Israel's blockade of the territory is now in its third month.
What did the Gaza Health Ministry say?
Gaza's Ministry of Health said almost 50 people were killed around Jabalia and 10 others in the southern city of Khan Younis.
Netanyahu's Comment
Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to push ahead with a promised escalation of force in Israel's war in the Gaza Strip, aiming to destroy the Hamas militant group.
In comments released by Netanyahu's office Tuesday, he said, "With great strength to complete the mission... It means destroying Hamas."
When did the Conflict start?
The conflict started on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants killed 1,200 people in southern Israel.
Israel's subsequent offensive has resulted in nearly 53,000 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, without specifying how many were combatants.
Since Israel broke the ceasefire on March 18, around 3,000 more Palestinians have been killed.
