Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has rejoined the squad in England after the former had flown back home to be with his mother who had suffered an hear attack on June 11. As per reports, Gambhir's mother had been taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Reportedly Gambhir's mother had not been fully recovered from the attack, but is known to be in better condition, paving way for the veteran batter to rejoin the squad for the 5-match series.
With just couple of days remaining for the 1st Test at Headingley, the Indian squad arrived at the venue for the first practice session on June 18, with Gambhir being spotted alongside the team.
Gambhir's Return Vital
Gambhir's arrival is a huge boost for the Indian team, as his experience and tactical know-how could be vital for the young batters who would be touring for the first time in the United Kingdom.
With the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the Indian team's batting top-order will be highly inexperienced. Shubman Gill will lead the side with Rishabh Pant appointed as his deputy, as India will be looking to win a series in England for the first time since 2007.
Harshit Rana Included
Meanwhile, the Indian selectors have added Harshit Rana to the squad ahead of the 1st Test. The pacer, who was not originally part of the squad, has made the cut. Rana played the 1st unofficial Test for India A against England Lions and also the intra-squad match against the senior side. Rana will be part of the 1st IND vs ENG Test squad.
