EU Bans China From Fresh Tenders For Medical Equipment

The market for medical equipment in the EU from surgical masks to X-Ray machines which is worth about 150 Billion Euro is being closed for China. EU retaliates to China's longstanding exclusion of EU-made medical devices in government tenders.

The European Union on Friday under the International Procurement Instrument announced measures to ban Chinese companies  from participating in EU Public tenders for medical devices.

바카라Our aim with these measures is to level the playing field for EU businesses. The move is in response to China's longstanding exclusion of EU-made medical devices from Chinese government contracts. We remain committed to dialogue with China to resolve these issues. The measure seems to incentivise China to cease its discrimination against EU firms and EU-made medical devices and treat EU companies with the same openness as the EU does with Chinese companies and products,바카라 EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic said.

These new restrictions are likely to increase ongoing tensions between the EU and Beijing. The EU has been increasing tariffs on China-built electric vehicles. Chinese measures against Europe might hinder discussions on exports of rare earths, something that the latter wants resolved by an EU-China summit in July.

In recent years, the EU has decided to take a tougher stance on trade, adopting a wide range of legislative measures to better protect its companies against unfair competition. China, however, accuses Europe of protectionism.

After a year of negotiations, the Trade Commission, which manages trade policy on behalf of all 27 member states, said it had made no progress with China. A Commission official said this ban would cover medical equipment including imaging equipment, artificial body parts and medical clothing.
